According to Lt. Col. Ward Webb, on Friday night, March 24, deputies responded to the area of Barbara Road in Prairieville in reference to a suspicious male subject hanging around abandoned homes.

Deputies located the subject in the area, later identified as Stephen Kennedy of Baton Rouge, who advised he was walking home.

Kennedy consented to deputies searching him and deputies located several stolen items in his possession and a quantity of methamphetamine.

As deputies began to transport Kennedy to the Ascension Parish Jail, Kennedy attempted to get out of his handcuffs. Deputies then stopped and began to check Kennedy again for other weapons; Kennedy then took off on foot and was later apprehended.

After his arrest, it was learned that the items stolen were from a vehicle burglary that Kennedy committed earlier Friday afternoon.

During Kennedy’s arrest, deputies also received information that Kennedy was in possession of a stolen vehicle from Baton Rouge. Deputies later located the vehicle near the area where Kennedy was arrested.

Kennedy, 20, of 10550 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, was arrested shortly after midnight on Saturday, March 25 and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, simple burglary, criminal trespass, possession of methamphetamine, two counts resisting an officer, two counts simple escape, and drug paraphernalia.

Kennedy was transported to the Ascension Parish Jail where his bond was set at $39,000.
