Daniel LaFleur’s son and daughter describe him as “a man who lived life to the fullest.” The family went on to say Mr. LaFleur had recently retired from carpentry and had full intentions on fulfilling his passion, taking to the high seas off the coast of Florida on his sailboat.

Tragically, on Saturday, October 24, at approximately 7 a.m., during his bike ride not far from his home, the kindhearted 67-year old Vietnam veteran was fatally struck by a passing motorist. Deputies discovered that during Mr. LaFleur’s bike ride on that fateful morning, at approximately 6:50 a.m., he had stopped on Parker Road and visited with the voters at Prairieville Primary (an Election voting precinct) , said Sheriff Jeff Wiley.

Several days prior to this horrible tragedy, Mr. Lefleur had returned to his Prairieville home after visiting family in Ohio and Florida. Friday night he informed his daughter, that after his Saturday morning exercise “bike ride”, he would be joining her family at LSU Stadium to enjoy the Tiger tailgating atmosphere.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene where Mr. LaFleur was found lying lifeless on the side of Parker Road in Prairieville.
