C.R.T. Tactical Supervisor
On June 14, 1993 Sheriff Harold Tridico approved the formation of a special team to respond to unique situations.
Following the tradition of other departments the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office formed a SWAT type unit called CRT. The Crisis Response Team (CRT) is a highly trained, specially equipped unit designed to provide an organized response to uncommon threats, such as hostage situations, barricaded suspects, sniper incidents, and high risk warrant services.
Members of the CRT received special training in modern combat shooting techniques with both the semi-automatic pistol and various shoulder weapons, covert and dynamic building entry techniques, and stronghold and vehicle assault techniques.

This training is on-going and constantly updated, and includes live fire scenarios under both day and night conditions simulating barricaded suspect/hostage situations. In addition to their regularly scheduled in-service training regiment, CRT members have received highly specialized training from organizations such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Tactical Officers Association.
Each CRT member is outfitted with specialized equipment such as ballistic vests, ballistic helmets, gas masks, fire retardant clothing, and special entry lights. ALL CRT members are on call 24 hours a day and subject to call-out at any time.
CRT members are selected on the basis of past employee performance evaluations, and are tested on firearms proficiency, physical fitness ability, and oral interview performance.
The original seven members of the team were:
- Capt. C. Paul Robert
- Lt. Dan Falcon
- Lt. Benny DeLaune
- Lt. Robert Webre
- Det. C.J. Matthews
- Dy. Dean Smith
- Dy. Bill Wade
