Victim Notification

LAVNS

In 2003, there were 24.2 million victims of crime over the age of 12 in the United States. Of those, 5.4 million were violent victimizations and 18.6 million were property victimizations.

The National Victim Notification Network™, VINE allows crime victims across the country to obtain timely and reliable information about criminal cases and the custody status of offenders 24 hours a day - over the telephone, through the Internet, or by e-mail.

In Louisiana the system is called LAVNS and is a service provided by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement in cooperation with the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association (LSA), Louisiana District Attorneys' Association (LDAA), and the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections.

Victims and other concerned citizens can inquire about the current status of an inmate and can register to be notified immediately upon a change in the inmate's status, such as a release, escape, or court appearance. The LAVNS system handles more than 400,000 request per month. If you would like to be notified of an offenders release go to LAVNS or follow the instructions listed below.

What is LAVNS?

LAVNS is a service through which victims of crime can use the telephone or Internet to search for information regarding an offender's custody status and register to receive telephone and email notification when their offender's custody status changes.

LAVNS will monitor the custody status of adult inmates in all parish jails and state prisons. By calling our LAVNS LINE (866-LAVNS-4-U) or by accessing our website at the above link, you may inquire about an offender's status and, optionally, register to be notified upon any change to that offender's custody status (i.e., release from jail, transfer to another facility, etc.).

LAVNS is FREE to victims who may call LAVNS ANOYMOUSLY and as often as they wish to register or to determine an inmate's current status.
