Juvenile Court
Each month 4 different juvenile court sessions are conducted. Arrestees are given a court date date when they are released to their parent or guardian. West side arrestees are given an UPON Notice court date that is followed by a service of a subpoena by the District Attorney's Office stating the court date and time. Juveniles that are detained at a detention center will have a hearing within 72 hours of arrest. Parents or guardians are notified by the Juvenile Unit of date, time, and location of the hearing.
Juvenile Traffic Court
Juveniles who are issued traffic citations are required to attend mandatory traffic court with at least 1 parent or legal guardian present. Traffic court is held once a month with notices mailed out stating date, time, and location of hearing.
Random School Classroom Searches Several times a year Juvenile detectives and school officials coordinate random drug searches in our public schools. The drug detection team will search contents of student emptied pockets and contents of bags, book sacks, purses, or any container that a student is carrying. This primary search is for drugs, drug paraphernalia and weapons.
Illegal Sales of Alcohol and Tobacco to Minors
To combat the problem of under age alcohol and tobacco usage the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office Juvenile unit will conduct random operations at select stores that sell alcoholic beverages. Undercover juvenile operatives assist detectives in these sting operations. If anyone suspects a business establishment of selling tobacco or alcohol to under age children they should report it to the Juvenile Unit at 225-621-8325.
