Intelligence

The Ascension Parish Intelligence Division is charged with collecting, extracting, summarizing, analyzing and disseminating criminal intelligence data gathered from a variety of sources. Processing this data is critical to the departments assault on crime within Ascension Parish and the state of Louisiana and is accomplished through connections with other local, State, and Federal Intelligence Units. The Division also provides the Sheriff and District Attorney with the information necessary to combat career criminals, organized criminal groups and terrorists that could threaten the security of the parish and state.

The primary function of the Intelligence Division is to generate proactive investigations of major crimes and assist members of the Ascension Parish Criminal Investigative Division with their a more in-depth and time consuming analysis to their reactive investigations. Members of the Intelligence Division have received specialized training, subsequently developing an expertise in a wide variety of criminal investigations including: organized crime, traditional or nontraditional gang activity, money laundering investigations; corporate corruption's; and in various organized crime techniques. Unit members are responsible for maintaining a computerized intelligence data base and criminal behavior recognition system. As a result of these complex investigations, the Division works closely with local, State and federal authorities.
 
The overall mission of the APSO Intelligence Division is to diminish and control the capacity of career criminals and criminal organizations to influence Ascension Parish’s society, economy, and government. The Division seeks to accomplish this mission by continually monitoring the activities of significant career criminals and criminal groups operating in the parish or close proximity. The primary function of the Intelligence Division is to inform the Sheriff of significant organized criminal activity occurring in Ascension Parish, and to develop criminal cases up to the point where actual evidence-gathering by the Criminal Investigations Division can begin. Collection of intelligence data is performed by three Intelligence Division personnel assigned to the Intelligence Division.
