Welcome to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office "Official Web Site." These web pages were designed to provide you with an overview of the sheriff’s office and crime in Ascension Parish. In addition it will provide information about traffic and road hazards; vital weather information during hurricane season; safety tips for you and your family; community news; as well as points of contact within our organization. I invite you to regularly visit this web site and make it one of your first resources of information. Our web site will be a 'work-in-progress', constantly being updated to better serve you.
In July of 1998, the citizens of Ascension Parish voted to help move the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office into the 21st Century by approving a strategic plan to fight crime. A major component of that plan was accountability to you, the citizens of Ascension Parish. I promised to issue an annual report outlining the department's progress on the strategic crime plan and its affect on fighting crime in our community. For the past three years we have issued a complete annual report as promised, and will continue to do so in the future. However, with this new web site we are taking that accountability commitment even further.
Successful law enforcement is forged by partnerships; the past four years have been a strategic period of partnership with the Ascension Parish community. Our Department recognizes the benefits that Community Oriented Policing offers to law enforcement and the public. Law enforcement agencies depend on alert citizens to identify and report situations that seem out of the ordinary in their neighborhoods, communities, and places of business. In essence, citizens become law enforcement's "eyes and ears." By working together with your sheriff’s office you can play a potentially crucial role in the detection, disruption and prevention of crime in Ascension Parish.
Since September 11, 2001, our focus on the protection of the citizen's and visitors of Ascension Parish has expanded. This new mission includes protecting critical facilities and infrastructures from crime, disaster and terrorism. In addition our expanded mission is also to enhance federal, state and other local efforts towards increased domestic security. Over the next few months you will learn how the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office is playing a major national role in the fight against terrorism. Public education is a vital component in this effort and I pledge to keep you, the citizens of Ascension Parish, informed about the battle against terrorism.
Homeland Security is in fact a natural progression from Crime Prevention. By becoming involved in programs such as Neighborhood Crime Watch you can help us meet this challenge and enhance your community. Homeland security begins with you and it includes us working together as a community to make our neighborhood, community, parish, state, and nation secure.
I am very proud of the men and women of this parish for their support. Time and again, you have met the call of duty to help us keep our community safe, and we all have worked hard to provide all citizens of Ascension Parish with a safer place to live. I thank you for your continued support as we make our community a safer place to live and raise our families.
Sincerely;
